PICTURE THIS:

A warm summer evening, good friends, music, an open air café in your favorite Nordic capital or a boat leisurely anchored in your favorite fjord, a bucket of fresh shrimp, french bread and a bottle of wine…

On June 20th you will have a chance to experience almost all of the above because that’s the date of...

SCAN’s 9th annual Midsummer Shrimp Fest

SCAN is again hosting this event together with a number of co-sponsoring organizations, see separate flyer for details.

After the customary social hour, there will be dancing around the beautifully decorated Maypole. Ladies from SWEA will lead us in this typical Swedish midsummer tradition of singing and dancing.

Delicious “peel them yourself” shrimp from the ice cold waters of the Atlantic ocean will be served in abundance quantities, together with a scrumptious salad, bread and wine and followed by fresh strawberries, coffee and “dansk kringle”.
Pasta will be available for those who do not favor shrimps and our friends from Brit’s at Nansen will again keep the BBQ warm and provide grill meats as long as supply last.

After dinner the dance floor is opened and you will have a chance to dance all those extra calories right off. The popular “Time Machine” is back again this year and will keep us all hopping…..

It is recommended that you bring a warm jacket or sweater, just in case… The weather can turn a little cool after sunset.

There will be a raffle, silent auction. Donations of raffle items are encouraged. Contact Paal Berg If you wish to donate a prize: (562)716-9414 – paal.berg@wilhelmsen.com
Please contact Paal Berg .

This event is SCAN’s most important fundraiser of the year. All the proceeds go to Nansen Field’s operation and debt reduction. Please come and bring your friends for a great evening. But we have a request:
Last year we were around 375 people in attendance, of which approx. 50 were “walk-ins”….with no prior reservations. Needless to say this caused some logistical challenges. There will always be some that decide to come at the last minute and we try to plan accordingly. However, we encourage you to send in your reservation as soon as possible.

SOME PRACTICAL INFORMATION

1) Everyone must register at the check-in tables, which will be organized alphabetically. There will be a separate table for “walk-ins” and for those who reserved, but did not send in payment.

2) You will be given a red ticket when checking in. You can win a door prize so do not throw it away. The ticket also serve as your dinner ticket, so be prepared to show it on request.

3) Although wine served during dinner is included in the entry fee, you need to purchase drink tickets for drinks consumed during the social hour and after dinner. Do not get in line at the bar without a drink ticket because they do not accept cash. Bar tickets are sold at a separate table.

4) There are open seating at dinner. We realize that people prefer to sit with friends, but that is sometime difficult to arrange with such a large crowd. If your preferred seating cannot be met, think of it this way; you will get to meet some new and very nice people.

5) Maypole dancing is expected to start at 6:30 pm. You are encouraged to participate in this fun activity.

6) Dinner will start around 7 pm.
- Each table will select a person to pick up bowls of shrimp and salad at food stations.
- Lasagne is available for those preferring pasta to shrimp. Bring your plate to a designated food station.

- Grill meats are available in limited supply. A donation basket will be placed by the BBQ.

- Dessert (strawberries) will be placed at dessert tables as will coffee and pastries. Everyone help themselves. Don’t get impatient if the lines are a little long….you may meet new friends.

7) Raffle tickets will be sold throughout the evening up until approx. 8:30 – 9:00 pm. Raffle items will be displayed at tables in side the large clubhouse. Winning tickets will be posted on the wall inside big clubhouse around 9:30 pm.

8) Silent auction table will be located inside big club house. Make sure to visit and review. Be generous as this event is a fund raiser for Nansen Field

9) We like to have your feed-back regarding the arrangement and plan to send out a questionnaire afterwards. Make sure you leave us with a email address.
